Postcard Research and Planning

Advert Research and planning

For my postcard advert, I wanted to promote my documentary whilst maintaining the studios essence, therefore matching their colour palettes from their official websites to use as the main colour palette for my advert. In terms of layout and design, inspired by Black widows colour blocking, I colour blocked by masthead. In terms of typography I used archivo narrow in bold in order to create that dramatic effect as seen in black widow.

For my main cover line I created a catchy simple line that summarised the entire purpose of the documentary. I had two ideas but I think the second one is better as it has more rhythm and flow to it.Typography -  Cooper Hewitt, in bold

In terms of non verba codes - photographic codes, I wanted my main image to encompass the technological, data aspect of Daniel's work with the creative artistic images that these produced, so going over my footage I screenshotted two moments where I thought both art and technology crossed over. It's capturing the artist who is capturing his work of art using technology that made the piece in the first place a sort of reflection. I just found it ironic and interesting, however I think for the advert a more professional artistic image would look better as it even includes the cool tones that I have based my colour palette on.

(daniels work as the data is programmed to be ‘live’, his artwork is constantly fluctuating and moving and changing but that's the idea and purpose of recording live data) so wanted to reflect by adding a second main image of the same piece but at a different stage

I wanted to include a strip below to add the documentary details and add my company’ logo’ at the bottom left side.

I also was inspired by Black widows quote so skimmed through my footage and found an interesting clip of daniel talking about his work and the purpose and meaning of it so wanted to include it in the advert as it outlines what his intentions are as an artist, but in his own words (Hes half American and half Spanish) Therefore I feel its important to include the artists own perspective to effectively convey a sense of authenticity and his ‘truth’ to the audience.

'For me data is very challenging because it's so fundamental to our society and the world we live in and yet it's intangible whilst I'm surrounded by it, and so are you. As an artist i'm very interested in trying to represent it, give it a face., as this will allow us to negotiate and cognitively wrap our minds around it, to maybe even humanise it and make it ours’

Daniel Canogar

These are the three options, experimenting with layout and design

I asked my mom which one she liked more so i'm going to go with the second one

(The images were screenshoted from previous unedited footage featured in the docuemnatry filming and planning post, but they were in spanish so couldnt end up including them in my documentary but still wanted them to be apart of this project hence using them for the advert)
